Why was the "Baby Point Heritage Foundation" Incorporated ?

The Baby Point Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization, was incorporated in 2010. The Foundation is interested in three specific areas:

<> Protecting and Promoting the architectural heritage of Baby Point

<> Researching and Documenting the historical and architectural importance of the neighbourhood

<> Helping familiarize and educate residents and other interested persons about historical Baby Point

The Foundation consists of a group of interested individuals working to support these goals by holding social gatherings and meetings at which historical and architectural information is shared with the community. It is also our hope that these gatherings will heighten awareness of the historical legacy and architectural integrity of Baby Point, while contributing to a sense of community and goodwill among residents.

Additionally, the group has developed a website on which information researched about Baby Point can be found: the history of the area, biographical information on James (Jacques) Baby/his family and on Baby Point developer Robert Home Smith, a history of the Toronto Carrying Place pathway, the First Nations presence and aboriginal burial mounds, the importance of the French heritage, the geologic origins of the Humber watershed, and the War of 1812.

In addition, the Foundation has made submissions to the City of Toronto with respect to the City's proposed new zoning by-law and its potential impacts on Baby Point. The Foundation is also in discussions with the City with respect to the potential for creating a Heritage Conservation District for Baby Point.

We invite anyone interested in being part of this historically interested group to join us by using the
